Seeking from A to Z – Mina Gouvatsou-Karekou
The book “Seeking from A to Z” by the author Mina Gouvatsou-Karekou is published by Megas Seirios Publications.
Personal view: Angelina Papathanasiou
In this book, the author tries through a combination of science and philosophy to write her views on questions that have concerned the human being. On reading the words “science” and “philosophy”, some of you may be startled and think the book may be incomprehensible. But this is not the case.
I will reassure you by saying that the author does not use obscure terms, nor does she show off her knowledge. In a simple but not simplistic way, she puts forward her views on the questions that have occasionally occupied people, without seeking to impose her views. The subjects she has chosen to analyse are listed in alphabetical order in the book.
For instance, she writes her views on what is the human being and humanity, love, will, equality, body, time, etc. The chapters she devotes to each topic are short, and flow without tiring the reader.
“Each of us is unique. The latest news from the study of human DNA says that the genetic identity of each person is unique. Unique is the way each of us expresses ourselves, just as unique is the way we think. Yet, together, through our diversity, we all build a whole that contains it all.”
Reaching the end of each chapter, the reader gains knowledge about scientific issues in a way that is understandable, but most importantly, the reader is led to multidimensional ways of thinking.
“There is no point in dwelling on the past because what is done does not change. There is no point in dealing with the future because it has not existed for my limited perception. So let me live the present fully and use the experiences of the past only to live the present more fully.”
If you want to read something different from what you have read so far, then this book is ideal. It will open up new horizons before you and may help you get to know yourself better.
Summary: “One cannot traverse the changing space-time without changing oneself.”
With short texts, written in a simple, completely understandable way without requiring any special scientific training, the author achieves a wonderful synthesis of scientific and philosophical approach to each concept she has alphabetically selected. She uniquely demonstrates how Science validates Philosophy and vice versa, since both are committed to the search for truth.
