The refereed work on the Kakalidis Method done by Mr. Lazaros Koumentakis, director of the Ano Liosia Special Gymnasium – High School and Kostas Skalomemos, Assistant Professor in Birmingham University, was first announced with great success at the first international conference of the European Society for Research on the Education of Adults, an academic body that promotes and disseminates theoretical and practical research on adult education in Europe, held at the Open University in Patras 5-7 七月 2023, 名为 “Reimagining transformative and emancipatory adult education for a world to come”.

The proceedings of the conference have recently been published, including the article “The Kakalidis Method of Analysis as a Transformative Practice in a Group of Adult Students: presentation of an Experiential Workshop”.

This is a presentation of the practical implementation of the Kakalidis Method in the context of adult education and specifically in a project that took place in a Second Chance School in Athens. Already with the announcement of the topic, the students had shown great interest and the participation exceeded all expectations!

So was all the work that took place, as the group worked with the Kakalidis method to approach three works of art – a poem, a film and a song – to delve into them, discovering their essence and finally to compose two literary texts based on their experience.

The methodology, the practical application and especially the results of the immersion with the Kakalidis Method as a personal experience and learning of the participating adult students were presented at the conference and described in the article!

After our music event on Byzantine music at the Hellenic Centre London (21/10/2022), the charismatic actor, director and journalist Mr. Vassilis Panayi shared his impressions with the readers of the newspaper “Paroikiaki”.

先生. Panayi is always interested in our work and gives us the floor to talk about our activities through his TV shows.

We thank him wholeheartedly for unfolding the aspects of our work with his genuine lyrical word and we wish him strength, health and success in his multifaceted cultural path.

“During the previous week, I had the joy and pleasure to find myself among people whose desire is to offer to their fellow human beings moments that make them feel calmness and peacefulness.

People whose purpose is to produce civilisation. Civilisation is the most benign thing that brings human beings closer together and gives them the opportunity to converse and exchange opinions on how to make the world a better place.

The Servers’ Society are a group that has come to us from Athens, and we have come to know them through the events that they have organised in the past, always with the ultimate aim of creating an atmosphere that unites people, whoever they may be, wherever they may come from.

They produce civilisation with nothing in return apart from having people around them who enjoy the themes of the events that they organise.

Last Friday (21-10-2022) they came to us again from Athens and they gave us a wonderful presentation on the subject of Byzantine music and its evolution through the liturgies in our churches.

The roots of Byzantine music are found in ancient Greece where the Theatre began. They gave us the opportunity to remember that all good things were born of the Greek civilisation.

They gave us the opportunity to learn how chanting works and the roles played by the priests and the chanters who perform the religious ceremonies in our churches. Like a theatre as it was in ancient Greece.

They explained to us their aims and why they continue to offer their services without expecting anything in return.

Civilisation is not traded and cannot be sold. It is produced with the sole purpose of making human beings better for a better future.

All of us can achieve the realisation of our dreams. As long as we believe that nothing is unachievable.

The Servers’ Society are deserving of congratulations because they fight with their works, which always have to do with the literary arts, with poetry, with the publishing of books, and with no expectation of getting something in return.

They produce Theatre for young children and for children with special abilities and perform it with free entrance at various venues so that their performances can be watched by all the people who wish to do so.

The Servers’ Society have expanded to Great Britain where members of their Association are, besides Greeks, also Cypriots and even English. There are also members from other minorities that live in the UK.

They have also expanded to Istanbul where they will develop the Greek civilisation in the future so as to be spread to the people who will become a part of Omilos Eksipiretiton (The Servers’ Society).

At the end of the day, my dearest friends, hope lives again. After so much bad news that we hear from the mass media every day, the multiple instances of abuse and rape in Greece and elsewhere, we find hope again, and we once more unfold our dreams for the future for a better society.

I am very happy that I managed to find myself in the place where the Servers Society gave us one more lesson in civilisation and strengthened us by giving us causes to reinforce our memory, filling our cells with pieces of our roots and our rich civilisation, 哪, when needed, we will look to in order to strengthen our need to contribute to any efforts to develop our own civilisation.

There are more events of this kind coming in the following days, and we must pursue to be at the venues where they have been programmed to take place, so as to on the one hand support the people of civilisation, and on the other hand to enrich our own knowledge and fill in the gaps that may exist in the repositories of our minds.

The Open University of Cyprus will bring to us a wonderful event with the topic “Seferis… Memory hurts wherever you touch it!“

Let us benefit from the opportunity to be there and… let us hurt when touching the memories!

Our event on Byzantine music was held with great success at the Hellenic Center London on October 21st, 2022.

In his opening speech, the President of Omilos referred to “the potential of every human being to be well” and then gave the basic tone of our musical presentation.

“I would like to welcome you all and to thank you for coming tonight at our event. (…) Let me introduce myself. I have the honor and the responsibility to be the President of Omilos Eksipiretiton (The Servers’ Society), which has existed in Greece for 42 years now. We work upon the human being, because we believe in the potential of every person to be well. The best way to realize this is to believe in and express spirituality within each person.

Greece has great roots; they begin from ancient times and reach up until today. If we think for a while what are the first sounds that a person in Greece hears when they are born, we will see that the first sounds are from the parents, the mother and the father and the second is from Byzantine music. From the priest, who gives the blessing to the child after forty days to go out into the society. Byzantine music, that is, church music, has been directly linked to the Greek people since ancient times

In a sense, the Greek see in themselves the priest as the continuance of the ancient wise man, with the beard and the tunic, the cassock.

These things pass into the consciousness of the people.(...)

Our event titled “Revealing the Hidden Wisdom of Poetry” at Morley College in London was opened with the speech by the President of Omilos, in which he referred to all those who teach through Art and help humankind along its path.

We are a Spiritual Centre which has been active in Greece for 40 岁. The teaching that is given is how to learn to be well and that there are no impasses in Life.

Life brings problems. The immense current of Life brings problems, but it also brings those who teach human beings how to be helped.

“The Philosophy of Omilos is very simple. We believe that every human being has the right to be and can be well in their life. Difficulties will always exist, no one can say that there aren’t any difficulties in life, but we believe that every one of us has the power within them to be well. The centre of Omilos’ philosophy is the human being, each and every one of us. But you will ask: “how can we be well?“

Let’s say that the human being is a tree. A tree is strong and healthy when it has very deep roots, very good roots, healthy ones.

And you know, Greece has very, very deep roots which begin with Homer, Aeschylus, Plato, Aristotle, Socrates and reach Elytis, Kavafis and many other contemporary Greek poets.

And so, every Greek learns, just as every human being in every people does, to make their anguish, their pain, their joy into a poem, a song, a dance.

By dancing, the person performs, let’s say, a ritual act and takes the problem and lifts it up high. It is the tsolias (Greek man wearing traditional Greek clothes) who hits his foot on the ground and lifts it up into the air, thus taking the problem from the earth and giving it to the sun. And Greece has a lot of sun! Many problems and a lot of sun!

所以, let us delve into the essence of folk music, our tradition, and let us deepen into it to see what happens. Thank you very much.”

During the event by the magazine KELAINO on 03 三月 2019, Paraskevi Kostopetrou, Head of 梅加斯伊阿Seirios, describes in her speech in a crystal clear way, how we apprentice at Omilos to create and express ourselves through poetry, but also through any form of art, because essentially, we are apprenticing in the one and only supreme art, the Art of Life.

So that the dark sides of the self are illuminated, and the human being can take their course towards inner freedom

“At this point I would like to share with you how I began to write. But before this, I should tell you that from an early age I sought truth and knowledge, the kind that helps the human being be well. Coincidentally, although, of course, nothing is a coincidence, I arrived at Omilos Eksipiretiton, a school of thought and action. Dimitris Kakalidis的, the founder of Omilos, poet and philosopher, became my Master and I was a disciple at his side for 12 岁.

I remember in the very first lessons he had told me: “Voula, here we will not say something which is not already known, but we will put it into action.” And I began to act by accepting the facets of life, by expanding the mind and the heart, by deepening to find the hidden wisdom in every single thing.

At some point in my life, a difficult one for me, he told me that I have very powerful ideas and to start writing poetry. He saw in me the capability to write poetry. Every day, as I tackled the issues that occupied me, to make them into verses, and thus the power of the mind would become creation.

And so, I began to write.

The Master passed away in 1995. Since then, we have continued his work in many different ways. One of these is to open up the paths to all who come to Omilos, of expression and creativity through the arts, and therefore through poetry and literature!

SoSo that the dark sides of the self are illuminatedand the human being can take their course towards inner freedom.”

For us at Omilos, Poetry is the highest field of Art.

But because Poetry is first and foremost an experience – you live it, you breath it, it passes into you – let us allow the words of a member of our Literary Workshop to speak:

“(...) 24 years ago, I had the fortune of finding myself at Omilos Eksipiretiton. I found myself there because I had some philosophical pursuits and the need to get to know myself. I had no idea then about the many-sided and important work that is carried out at Omilos. I realized this later on, when I began to break free a little from my limitations and wants.

I also had the fortune of having many discussions with the person in charge and current President of Omilos. One day in his office, as I was reading him an assignment pertaining to my self, he interrupted me by saying: “You will write Poetry. It is through this that you will progress…”

He took a book from the bookcase, opened it at a random page and read to me a poem by the Master and founder of Omilos, Dimitris Kakalidis的. I was astounded! But what is he talking about?, I thought… Is it possible for me to write poetry?

And then I remembered a notebook of poems that I had during my school years, in which I wrote poems and which at some point I threw into the fire, for fear of someone finding it and reading them. I considered them unimportant, fleeting escapes, which eventually were carried away in the flow of my life and were buried in the utmost depths of my memory. And at that appointment, President of Omilos  had come to raise them.

And so, I began to write. I remember the first poem… I was very happy when I brought it to him. “It is not good” he told me, “work on it more”. I wrote and re-wrote it many times… Every time he would say: “It does not have redemption. You have to give it redemption”. 诗, he used to tell me, is the word that redeems as the soul pulsates in the magnificence of the Entity. It is the highest field of Art.

所以, I began writing in a different way… going beyond myself and uniting with other people. Always under his total care and guidance.

I observed that the word becomes Poetry when it follows the soul in the processes it goes through until it finds its way. And poetry, accompanying it in this wandering, helps it to go through its sadness less painfully… to experience its joy in a more balanced way… Thus, it elevates the soul and redeems it…

For me, but also for all of us, the literary group of Omilos Eksipiretiton, who are apprenticing, who have learnt how to be well by helping others, what is important is that the word is expressed in such a way that the soul can take breaths and reality vision, giving, through our verses, breaths and visions to humanity who is suffering…

And this is the legacy, the vision that was left in the field of poetry and literature, by the Master and Poet Dimitris Kakalidis. We thank him for it.”

“No, I will not sink in the wake of dreams

不, I will not scatter in the planes of sleep”

The poetry collection “FOR THE FLOWERS TO SING”, a seasoned fruit of the well-known poetess (and much more) 瓦西莉基Ergazaki的, is a responsible attestation of lyrical confession to the “hidden and the secret” of her soul’s internal repository.

In this repository, she partakes in the joys and the sorrows, and in her distillery, she deposits her “ALTER EGO” with contemplations and visions, wearing “unexpected wounds”.

Experience as a conception and a rendering of life, nature which walks alongside and collaborates with the events, this “blood of writing” becomes “Queen earth” and a river and light and a white seashore, a breath of the moment that reveals the other “depths of the source”, an invitation for the living and the dead, cool air in life’s furnace, and, on the other hand, zest and love and homesickness for the motherland, 和 “the Spring of the soul the persistent” for a poetess who does not give up and does not surrender her shield, on the contrary, fights night and day with a distinct expressional arsenal, which seeks the other voice of faces, of things and of situations.

“On the other edge of dawn

At the sacred hour

When the waves burn

The rocks officiate”.

Poetry from within, spiritual blossoming, and the rupture and fission of the horizons, a communication between the world above and the world below, a perpetual ignition and attestation, discovery and loss, “a garden burning” and light where the flowers and the fragrant herbs meet somewhere with “the expectation’s inside covers”, there where the colours and the souls fight

“to free the infinite”.

Every one of her poems has an unrivalled expressive cohesion and binding at the seams, and is, at the same time, a spiritual pilgrimage and the tracing of life and concomitantly of death.

Poetry with cuts and bastions there where “the voids and rifts” meet, and the grown-ups become children again, and the fragments from old photographs frantically seek the advent and the sacrament.

Voice and soul meet, myth and story somewhere they come together and somewhere they lose each other, alternating levels and “burning waves” that lead to an endless variety and “night-time tapestry”, and the words and shapes, given by the poetess with craftmanship, “travel visions” and desires always with the same direction and destination

“to the Delios island, the resplendent”.

Joy, Jan, the quest, art, the vision, light, knowledge and love, titles of her poems, are also at the same time defining factors and a compass of her poetic becoming. Here we should say that the poetess has reverently partaken from the work and the mission of the unforgettable Dimitris Kakalidis, richly influenced by and radiating his visionary awareness.

A poetry with a personal manner and expression, a penetration into the wave and the workshop of the “primordial light”. Vassiliki Ergazaki merges, sinks into and emerges “in the paths of time” and of the Universe, with a contemplation and confrontation of era with time, taking stock, making sacrifices and going through pains which “set forth for the fightless battle” with thousands of cries, with peristyles and with expedient gifts and rewards of a soul with quests and memories and with footsteps there where “the frequencies of sounds mourn”.

A poetry that renews the alphabet of pain and travels longings and oaths and visions, that seeks “Mario who was killed in the school’s yard by a stray bullet”, her friend Voula who “within the human beings finds the Human Being”, Greece the Navigator with the panhuman ideals that exists as the Odyssey and as the One Rising form the Sea

The exceptional poet and literary critic Mr. D. Karamvalis honored us by addressing a greeting at our event about the poetic work Logos the Third on 01/12/2018. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Karamvalis for his deep and profound approach and his speech is cited below unchanged:

“A short promenade in the great secret garden of the Master”

Dimitris Kakalidis lives forever with us through his true teachings, his secret gardens and his legacy of words and deeds. He was a distinctive, timeless individual in the spiritual world since, in our opinion, he does not belong to a specific generation, as do not poets and philosophers of great caliber like K.P. Kavafis or Giorgos Sarantaris.

With his rich, insightful, catalytic word, Kakalidis could and managed to harmoniously combine poetry and philosophical contemplation, something that very few – a minimal number we could say – have accomplished in the passage of their spiritual path. Verses taken out of the depths of the soul, an apologia of silence and deep inner culture of an encaustic with the condensed and evenly structured word of poetic synthesis that brings to light an entire MODUS VIVENDI – a way and stance of life – which lays sleepless in the passages of night for the “glimmer of day”, this solitary traveler and anchorite of the worldly with both fight and agony, already experienced in the meaning of sacrifice and holocaust.

They are the “words of the deeds” (of the recently departed P. Sotirchos) and a “practical philosophy” to remember Evangelos Papanoutsos, stance and resistance, revolutionary word that forms the navigational compass and with panhuman messages, products of inner battle and fire, as he characteristically writes.

“I lay awake,

against the sleep of my world I turn…

and of my holy matter,

the wild nature I tame.»

His poetic compilation “Logos the Third”, and philosophical at the same time, and which signals the completion of a trilogy, sounds the horn of hope to the souls through the exfoliation itself, the insertion and the invitation – challenge to a new spiritual engraving, the orientation and the approach towards the precarious and the hidden, and therefore the history itself of humanity and civilization, in a timeless space that touches with its tips the experience and the fire (Arist. Nikolaidis) and the feverous orgasm in a distilled code of honor, responsibility and duty:

“Timeless is my present,

that in the distant future

the intentions of my past

I have expressed!”

The writing of Dimitris Kakalidis is the incarnate word, with selfless offer, holy bread to the “Mastermind of the spectrum, of mind the creator”, a “NEW SEIRIOS” with an everlasting journey

“from the infinite to the world,

from the human to my self”,

there were he manages to convey to the reader – recipient the innermost burning of soul and word, without unworthy rhetorical ruses, but with the sling bag of the anchorite he speaks without intermediaries to the mind, the heart and the soul, with a word exceptionally unique and revelatory.

I am sure that the three distinguished speakers will analyze deeper the poetic flesh and blood of the great Master and the esteemed poetess Faidra Zambatha – Pagoulatou with her well-known sensitivity will render the texts.

Upon closing, I would like to congratulate the worthy President of Omilos, as well as the active members of the Omilos Eksipiretiton because they continue the true teachings and visions of Dimitris Kakalidis in the best possible way.
